Real Talk with Fonzworth Bentley: A Lesson in Life
Story and photo By DeWayne Graham
APRIL 28, 2016: Today on March 16, 2016, the senior class was given the opportunity to listen to Derrick Watkins, aka Fonzworth Bentley, a musician and author best known for being Sean (Puffy) Combs’s personal valet. He came to talk to the students about how we are all CEOs right now and that we represent our own brand. He told us that if you're rude, then that will be the brand you represent and that you need to change because you’re giving a negative sell to your brand...and vice versa for behaving in a positive manner. This includes always having good posture when you walk because it shows that you’re confident in what you are doing. For instance, if you walked into a room slouched over and talking low, then no one will pay you any attention.
This presentation was extremely helpful because it taught me how to always represent myself in a well mannered way.I’d like him to come back and present to Friendship because he kept it real with us and he inspired us to be a better person in and outside of school.
