JUNE 10, 2015: On February 28th, 2015 Friendship Collegiate Academy (FCA) hosted Friendship Public Charter School’s (FCPS) annual STEM fair. The FPCS STEM Fair’s main purpose is to inform kids about science, technology, engineering and math. By doing this, students must complete projects in which STEM is incorporated. It helps create a passion in the youth for STEM activities and learning.
During the STEM fair FCA decided to invite alumni who are actively engaged in STEM careers to judge. Amazing alumni working in the STEM fields came out on a Saturday to give back to Collegiate. Jerome Butler, Class of 2007, is an engineer at NASA. Marcel Gibson, Class of 2008, is an computer scientist who is now working at AOL. Kevin Hebron, Class of 2009, is a game designer and IT contractor.
The Winners of the STEM fair:
Brittany Young won first place in the individual project category for her Leeway Case in engineering.
Juniors DeWayne Graham, Katherine Baker, and Korey Carter placed third in the team project category for their
project on manipulation of thermal output in chemistry.
Michael Richardson, Asia Simms, and Ashley Nesmith placed first in the team project category for their comparison of the temperature combustion in chemistry.
JaRhonda Roberts, Kerrett Haynes and Alexis Haynes placed second in the team project category for their demonstration of iodine clock kinetics in chemistry.
Congratulations to the winners of the STEM fair.
