Michelle Obama Honors Healthy Kids
January 19, 2013. The Office Science and Technology (OSTP) of the National Institutes of Health came to Friendship Collegiate Academy on Minnesota Ave to inform us about a healthy lifestyle. They came as part of the Presidential Inauguration and MLK Day. We thought the 1st Lady was going to be in attendance, but Michelle Obama was not able to make it. But OSTP made Saturday a day not to forget. The event began in the auditorium as we listened to inspiring stories by Public Allies speakers. Then we split into three groups to partake in “Let’s Move” (Michelle Obama’s Healthy Kids Program). For example we had a little contest with jump rope and hula-hoop. Then we had leadership discussions, delivered toiletries to senior citizens in the neighborhood and we even painted a mural (see above). This event really helped to bring us as people from different places all together.
