JUNE 29, 2015: The San Francisco 49ers are losing key players left and right due to retirement. It started with Pro Bowl veteran linebacker Patrick Willis who retired earlier after eight seasons with the 49ers, shortly after the 49ers told Jim Harbaugh (former 49ers head coach) they didn’t want him anymore. Harbaugh became a college football coach at Michigan State University.

Next, was a young player who retired earlier this year just after his rookie season, Chris Borland, who was concerned about head injuries. He is linebacker who showed signs of having a promising career in the NFL. He is leaving the game at the age of 24. Then, Pro Bowl defensive end Justin Smith retired at the age of 35 after fourteen seasons in the NFL, seven seasons with the 49ers. The most recent retirement though is that of Anthony Davis, a left tackle who is retiring at the age of 25 after five seasons in the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of rebuilding to do from coaches to players, so don’t expect to see them in the playoffs, anytime soon.
