A Book Signing to Remember

MAY 23, 2018: Earlier this school year, 7th grade scholar, Ziyahn Richardson, learned that his great-great-great grandmother is Emily Edmonson, one of the Edmonson siblings, who tried to escape slavery here in Washington, D.C. on a ship called the Pearl. Abolitionists in the Underground Railroad network organized her escape. Ms. Worthy, the U.S. History teacher here at Woodridge, surprised Ziyahn with a book signing party.
Last month, the entire 7th grade finished reading the book, Passenger on the Pearl, which is about Ziyahn’s great-great-great grandmother’s journey. Emily Edmonson teaches us all about her courage and wisdom and to never give up on our dreams! This is going to be a year Ziyahn and many of his classmates are never going to forget.
Kamarie Wright is a 4th grade scholar and Braylon Wims is a 7th grade scholar at Friendship Woodridge Academy.
