Awesome Con 2022

On June 4, 2022, Collegiate’s Friendship News Network (FNN) team went to Awesome Con. Awesome Con is an event held every year at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It’s an annual pop culture convention where people from all over the country come to cosplay, play games, introduce themselves to different people, and meet famous actors, writers, and artists. 

Going into this convention, my assignment was to look into the community created between fanbases. I considered the different fan bases and how they might react to a difference in opinion, especially concerning one’s favorite character. Having varying fan bases connects people within a certain community to another community with more similar interests regarding that fan base.

I talked with Marvel fans, anime fans, and also gamers. I asked how they felt about any upcoming movies or games regarding their fandoms. I got very positive responses. One Marvel fan told me he can’t wait for more Marvel content, “I’m really excited to see what Marvel does in the next phases of the MCU.” Similarly, a Kratos fangirl said, “I’m looking forward to the next God of War game…I can’t wait man.”
