BET awards 2015: Hit or Miss?
Television Review by Savannah Matthew
On June 28, the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California and were televised on the BET network. This year marked the 15th anniversary of the BET Awards. The award ceremony has been televised since June 2001. Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the awards. In my opinion, the BET awards were kind of a miss, meaning bad since some of my favorite artists did not perform. August Alsina didn’t perform. Come on man, he’s one of the best artists I’ve ever had the chance to listen to. He writes about real life and I think he should get a chance sing his song (Hip Hop).Go listen to that song. It’s amazing, well, actually his whole album is phenomenal. Throughout the show these irrelevant people was on stage, for instance K. Michelle, Tamar Braxton and Alicia Keys. How’s Alicia Keys going to come back after being MIA for 5 years. I think that Rae Sremmurd should have sung “This could Be Us”. It is a really amazing song. Lastly, Diddy took up most of the time with his crusty songs. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love old music but it doesn’t need to take up the whole show. In addition to him singing old songs, he fell into the crowd. So not only did you take away from me hearing other amazing artists because I have to watch you reminisce from those good ole times, but you bust your butt on stage falling on that poor crowd of people. Despite these horrible things it was still an ok show/performance.
Now to the facts: These nominees were announced on May 18, 2015. Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown lead the nominations with six each. Beyonce and Lil Wayne followed with four each. Now let me get to the juicy details about what happened on the red carpet. First, Karrueche was throwing shade at Chris Brown. Of course who wouldn’t. But it should have been all love and support because at that show Karrueche was overheard dissing Chris Brown to her friends, but he was also throwing shade during his acceptance speech he said “To know me is to love me, if you ain’t with us so what. Secondly Rihanna met Chris Brown backstage to congratulate and show support to him while he was rehearsing, I think that was a bad choice because if he was still “so called” trying to get back with his ex why would he be talking to her. Thirdly Rihanna chuck’s a stack of money at Stephen Hill’s face and duct taped Mayweather's mouth, but it was a promo for her new music video BBHMM. The people who performed were Alicia Keys, Andra Day, Anthony Hamilton, Avery Wilson, Big Sean, Chris Brown, Ciara, Donnie McClurkin, E-40, Empire Cast, Fetty Wap, Gary Clark Jr., Janelle Monae, Jason Derulo, Jidenna, K.Michelle, Kendrick, Meek Mill, Ne-yo, Nicki Minaj, and Omarion.
