Scream is a top selling horror movie within the slasher franchise. As of 2024, there have been six movies that embody the soul of the franchise. The main antagonist of the franchise is Billy Loomis. The first movie premiered in 1986 and takes place in the town of Woodsboro.
On September 19, 1979, an evil man was born. Billy Loomis was one of the main killers in Scream. He truly was a man made monster. He wasn't always this way. Billy was once a caring and sweet person until his family was broken up due to his father having an affair with Maureen Prescott, the mother of his girlfriend, Sidney Prescott.
As a horror film fanatic, he pressures his best friend, Stu Macher, into helping him commit a killing spree in their town of Woodsboro. While he states it is "scarier when there is no motive,” he reveals to Sidney, and Stu, that the killing spree is an elaborate revenge attack against Maureen Prescott.
Billy and Stu loved horror movies, and they took something from the movies they loved and turned it into reality, causing them to get driven to the darkest pits of their hearts. That's when they started using the Ghostface costume to kill their victims and obtain fame.
Nevertheless, Billy impacted the franchise massively since he created the Ghostface persona and pressured his best friend Stu into a killing spree. This began a streak of insane individuals who were influenced by Billy’s madness and thus kept the franchise going.
There are many sequels within the franchise and more to come for future generations, especially the sixth film that many fans are dying to see which will be released in 2026.
