On April 3, 2024, Friendship Collegiate Academy’s Esports team went toe-to-toe with District of Columbia International School and came up on top. This win led to FCA’s Esports team to go from being ranked number three to number two in the District! The team has worked very hard for this moment, and the constant practice paid off. This is only the beginning for this team. They won’t stop until they have reached number one.
When talking about the recent win, Mr. Kelso, FCA Head Esports Coordinator and 11th and 12th grade history teacher, said, “This time last year we finished at 11th, so just reaching second is amazing. These athletes have put in the hard work and dedication needed to succeed. They take every loss as a lesson and adapt.” FCA Esports coordinator and 11th and 12th grade math teacher, Mr. Condra said, “We just need to keep working hard to achieve our goals.”
FCA Esports team member and sophomore Isaiah Gerald said, “Last year, we barely had a chance to put ourselves out there. This year, we definitely have that chance, and we did not take it for granted. 2nd rank in the district, huh? Do you see what practice does to a team? Do you see the commitment?"
Despite their success, team members know they also can’t let this get to their head. Junior Diamond Lewis said, “Don’t mistake a moment with progress, because you can run in place without going anywhere.”
With this streak of talent and commitment, they are sure to reach number one in the District. As the 2023-2024 school year is starting close, the FCA Esports journey is just beginning as committed, hardworking students look forward and towards the future.
