MAR. 19, 2019: On March 8, 2018, my fellow FBLA (Future Business Leaders Of America) members and I attended our first FBLA DC competition at the One Judiciary Square Conference Center. We competed with other schools such as McKinley Tech and Friendship Collegiate.
There were different categories to compete in and mine was the job interview. In order to get prepared, I had to create a cover letter and resume for the job that I wanted. Some of the other categories that my peers entered included graphic design and public speaking. I was nervous about the interview but overall I feel as if I did an amazing job. They asked me fashion-related questions because the job that I chose was Fashion Stylist. After everyone competed in their categories, we ate lunch and closed out.
Nialiyah Brown won in Introduction to Public Speaking. Jadia Davis and Ny’Sjae Palmer won in Business Plan. TaQuan Pratt and Tymia Jones won in Graphic Design, while Jadia Davis won in Sales Presentation. Last, but not least Sean Beach won in Job Interview.
I’m so proud of my team members for winning our first competition. Now they’re going to San Antonio for nationals from June 28th to July 3rd. Overall it was a fun and new learning experience and I’m ready for next year's competition.
