Goodbye Marion Barry: Last Ride In Southeast
Story by Nya Offutt. Photo by DaVon Williams.
February 19, 2015: On December 5th Marion Barry took his last ride through the streets of southeast and past our school.
It was raining but a lot of people came out to say goodbye. Some kids from my school were outside too. I asked them about their feelings, and this is what they said:
Simone Crank: “We were outside to see them and celebrate history. People told me that he did a lot for the city”.
Kayla Young: “We went outside to celebrate and thank him for what he did for us.
Reniya Foreman: “He was our old mayor, but he passed away. He helped a lot of people and made DC a better place.”
Jerzey Brown: “I went outside to see what was happening. I heard that he was sick and then died.”
Nya Offutt: “My mom and uncle were friends with him.”
