Google Partners With Howard University

APRIL 11, 2017: On March 24, 2017, Google announced that they would partner with Howard University to open a new campus at Googleplex for junior and senior computer science majors. The Googleplex is the corporate headquarters complex of Google, Inc. in California. Google has joined the movement to help HBCUs expand their interest in the tech industry. In a new partnership, Google has created a satellite campus for computer science majors at Howard University. The “Howard West” campus will be stationed at the Googleplex, giving computer science majors a chance to experience life in Silicon Valley for three months while furthering their education in technology. This is exciting news for students. The new campus will produce hundreds of Black computer science graduates and the workforce will be more diversified. This is just the first step in bringing opportunities to all students who would never get this type of exposure.

I feel good after hearing about this. I’m happy that Google is giving HBCU students the opportunity to work with software engineers. This makes me happy because they’re choosing a black college with black students to help them. Many times black students are not usually given a chance to work for a big company like Google. It would give students an opportunity to do something different other than working in a corporation located in Washington D.C. Also, this might be a chance for some to fly on a plane to California, a place that they might have never gone to if they didn’t join Googleplex. Hopefully, in the future, Google will create additional partnerships with more HBCU’s.
