“Isn’t She Lovely”: Woodridge’s 1st Annual Father and Daughter Dance

On Saturday, January 28, 2017, the Woodridge Dance Team put on their 1st Annual Father Daughter Dance. The dance was held in the gym with decorations like it was a prom. The colors were pink, white and purple. All of the round shaped tables had white tablecloths with a centerpiece of bowls of goldfish and vases filled with gold and purple twigs. The theme for the dance was “Isn’t She Lovely”, a song by Stevie Wonder. Tickets for this event sold out weeks before and parents tried to purchase tickets at the door.

The father and daughter couples danced the night away on the floor. The dance was a fun-filled evening for all of the girls at Woodridge in grades PK through 8th grades. The room had a representation from every grade. The dance floor had five-year-olds dancing with their dads. Every girl at Woodridge was proud to show off the special men in their lives. There were dads, uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends of the family, and you name it. The men showed up in their “Sunday Best” outfits. All of the girls were dressed to impress in their beautiful gowns, patent leather shoes, and pumps. The hairstyles were curly ponytails with an array of bows, ribbons, and accessories.

The dance was fun! It started off with an icebreaker asking each girl questions pertaining to their interests. Then everyone danced to the sounds of a live band and DJ. The men all lined up to a photo booth to take instant pictures with a background displaying pink, white, and gold balloons. Afterward, there was a dinner served with baked chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, buttered rolls, salad, cake, and tea.

Everyone had a great time spending quality time with friends and dads. Even if a girl did not have their real dad with them, they had a special father figure in their life to show. It was the best time I ever spent with my dad--a moment I won’t ever forget.
