On Friday, March 24, 2017, eight of Woodridge’s scholars competed in The Carderock Math Contest. The Carderock is a unique educational opportunity for middle-school students with an interest in mathematics. The event consisted of a MATHCOUNTS style competition, an exciting STEM presentation, an interactive tour of Carderock's state-of-the-art facilities, an on stage countdown round, and an awards ceremony. Mathematics opens the doors to many promising career paths. Some of the highest paying jobs require some form of higher level math in colleges such as jobs for engineers, doctors, physicians, nurses, and computer science. This competition showed us that analytical and problem-solving skills learned in math are contagious. There are so many students who love and enjoy math all around the DMV.

Woodridge congratulates our mathematicians who participated in MATHCOUNTS at the Naval Sea Systems Command Center located at the Navy Yard: 7th graders, Dapria Fell, Tanasia Springs, Dayanna Shackleford, Andrea Newman-Thompson and 8th graders, Damari Harleston, Dynasty Meade, Dasia Hill, and TJ Moss. A special thank you to Ms. Franco, our 7th and 8th grade math teacher, for coaching our scholars in preparation for this competition.

Dynasty Meade is an 8th grade scholar at Friendship Woodridge Academy.
