DEC. 2, 2019: Can you remember what you did during your middle school years? No? Well, this year will be a year that students at Woodridge will not soon forget! For the second year in a row, Friendship Woodridge is officially a Tier 1 school! And I know what you’re thinking. “Well, I don’t really know what that means, Paris.” So, let’s put things into perspective by asking some Woodridge teachers and students.
“What does our school being Tier 1 for the second year in a row mean to you?”
Mr. Davis, Woodridge Physical Education teacher: “It means I got a bunch of smart, intelligent kids!”
Ms. Greenwald, 6th grade ELA teacher: “It just simply means that kids who might be underestimated are overcoming challenges.”
Ms. Manning, ELA Instructional Coach: “It means that kids who are passionate about learning, are trying to become better in their practice, are ready to go to and through college, and are on their way there.”
Marcellus P.J., 5th grade scholar :“I think it means that we’ve shown how well our teachers can teach us. I think it’s a great achievement for our school. It’s nice.”
Mrs. Whitfield, Librarian: “It means that we’ve taken our students and staff very seriously and we expect nothing but the best!”
But if that didn’t help at all, Tier 1 means that my school has achieved having top tier status in our tests like MAP and PARCC in practically all grade levels. But don’t think our hard work went unnoticed. To celebrate, our Principal, Mrs. Owo- Grant herself, decided to throw a carnival for all grades! You could play Twister, go up a climbing wall, or just enjoy yourself on the playground. And if that isn’t something to celebrate, I don’t know what is.
