Picking Peppers!

Story and photos by Ahmed Abdul-Malik

9/3/2021. Today, my mom and I volunteered to pick peppers at the Kelly Miller Urban Farm in Washington, DC.

The Kelly Miller Farm lets people volunteer to provide free or low cost herbal products to DC residents. They had a lot of different types of peppers such as bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, and Shishido peppers. In other patches we saw banana peppers, cantaloupe, tomatoes, and some lettuce.

I also got to see plants growing out of coconuts, a senior’s garden and a compost station.

I had a lot of fun going to the community garden and I think you should go visit it. I felt good volunteering at the farm because I helped provide people with food around DC by helping pick peppers at the farm. I’d like to do it again sometime because I enjoyed picking peppers at the Kelly Miller Farm. The address to Kelly Miller Farm is 301 49th St NE, Washington, DC 20019.
