PLANET WORD Or Is It Planet WOW?
Story and photos by Gabriel McCrea.
September 17, 2021. The Planet Word is a museum about the history of words. It is located at 13th and K Street, NW, Washington DC. The Planet Word museum was very inspiring to me as a young writer. First the building itself was gorgeous. As I entered, there were hieroglyphics on the floors and lighting that spoke in varying languages. Hieroglyphics are some of the earliest ancient words in the world written by the Egyptians. The fact the museum is housed in the old Franklin School is interesting, because I learned so much.
Would you expect that there would be so much fun at the Planet Word Museum? I am going to share with you what I found fun.
Because so much of the museum has touch screens, the staff passes out paint brush-sized stencils to play the games and make ads for Planet Word. I spent quite a bit of time doing karaoke. When doing karaoke I was given a small tablet to choose any songs that I liked.
Right beside the karaoke room was a joke room with picture frames with props on the side. There is a joke center, even though I didn't find many of the jokes funny. Right past the joke room was a big screen with an outdoor screener where people can paint different seasons and mystic colors. And the weirdest thing was that there were small poems and jokes inside the bathroom.
Next to the children’s museum, the word museum is very kid-friendly, interactive and an amazing planet of words.
