MARCH 2, 2017: BET’s miniseries, “The New Edition Story” depicts three decades of the legendary group. This project was so authentic and raw. It told the story of the secret lives of each member: Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Michael Bivins, and Ricky Bell. This miniseries showed brotherhood, betrayal, breakups, and friendship. I was so excited when the movie was announced because New Edition is one of my favorite R&B groups.

The movie starts as the boys begin to form the group. The group experiences the hardships of fame from management problems to bankruptcy. Part 1 of the series shows the group’s rise to fame as they transformed from little boys eager for fame to young professionals. Part 2 of the series shows tension within the group as Bobby’s antics caused him to get kicked out of the group, as well as Johnny Gill joining the group. Part 3 focuses on the group’s breakups, solo careers, and the attempt to do a reunion tour. I highly recommend this miniseries to people who love New Edition or young people who love old R&B groups.
