DEC. 5, 2018: This week, Woodridge’s very own Ms. Sarah Frayer, 2nd grade teacher, has been named the D.C. Finalist for the Sanford Teacher Award! This is certainly a monumental achievement for Ms. Frayer, our entire school, as well as the Friendship community. Ms. Frayer’s achievement is just one of the many examples of the excellence in teaching that resides within our school.

The Sanford Teacher Award is given to an inspiring teacher who can be recognized by the following characteristics: enthusiasm for teaching; empathy and warmth towards all students; fostering positive relationships with all students; creating a positive learning environment; and recognizing student strengths.

News media from ABC-7 WJLA arrived to film the awarding of a 10,000 check. The entire class was super excited. One student shouted out, “This is the best day ever!”

In her essay Ms. Frayer stated that she always put the children first and thinks with love. She was extremely surprised and thankful. She says that she is going to use the money to help pay for graduate school.

Ms. Frayer thanked the entire school family saying “Words cannot describe how thankful I am to have received the 2018 Sanford Teacher of the Year Award. I am beyond grateful to educate the minds of our youth. I am so overwhelmed with happiness, to know that I won not for me, but for us. I won for the students who aspire to be great, the educators who believe and inspire our children daily, the parents who are the 1st teachers. My goal is to always win for us.”
