A Young Kid’s Reflection on Parenting

Story and photo by Ziyair Scott.

Young kids go through so much, and not all kids have someone to talk to and just express their feelings with. Some kids live in group homes and they don't have any parents, guardians or someone to look up to. Here’s some tips for adults.

If you haven't had an actual conversation with your child, or just a sit down, you should. Tell your kids to say whatever they want and what’s on their mind, if they feel comfortable sharing. You are  parents, you can’t get mad at what they say because they are just young. According to AFSP, suicide rates between 2000 and 2024 include over 100,000 deaths for those ages 10 to 21. You never know what someone is experiencing at home.

Kids are too young to be feeling like this. Some kids go through death, loss and depression. You always want to check up on any child. It doesn’t matter if it’s your child or not. Always check in on what is going on in their life. You never know what is going on inside, and what consequences it may have.
