Did Mayor Bowser Really Come To Blow Pierce?
Story and Photo by Aliyah Ibikunle.
October 23, 2021. At the esteemed address of 725 19th Street NE, Washington, DC 20002, Mayor Bowser came to Friendship Blow Pierce. From announcing the teacher of the year to kicking off the leaf season she did everything.
While she didn't come inside the school, she enjoyed many activities outside. Mayor Bowser painted pumpkins with some preschoolers and made some kids happy by helping and showing them artistic values.
During the kickoff, we had three 8th graders ask Mayor Bowser questions which she immediately dodged. It makes us wonder why she didn't answer. We asked her some questions like, “Knowing the challenges that people of color face in education, what is the most paramount piece of evidence you would give us as African American children?” Mayor Bowser did not give us any advice. Instead she talked about what she wants to do in the community
While we appreciated her concern in our community, we really wanted her advice as she is someone in a prominent position.
