Fading Color, a documentary that shines a light on how gentrification has changed DC, premiered at the Friendship Public Charter School community office on Friday, December 9th, 2022. The documentary took a challenging three years to make during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with the help of college students, who happen to be Friendship alumni, the masterpiece came to be.
At this memorable event, panelists contributed to the conversation about gentrification in the DC area. There were many great panelists, including Carlos Richardson, a history teacher at Friendship Collegiate Academy and Sheryl Brunson, the head of the tenants association at Brookland Manor, to name a few. Brunson talked about the major impacts of Brookland Manor, which is a program that would stop gentrification in different communities. Richardson spoke about gentrification from a teaching perspective. The event was tremendous and outlined many important housing problems in DC.
