MAR. 14, 2019: On February 22, 2019, Friendship Tech Prep’s Future Business Leaders of America team attended our very first LifeSmarts competition at UDC Law School. LifeSmarts is a program of the National Consumers League, the nation’s pioneering consumer organization. LifeSmarts is an educational opportunity for students in grades 6-12, that teaches financial and consumer literacy through fun activities.
In order to prepare for the competition we studied, did qualifying and practice quizzes and worked hard to memorize the life skills that we may need. During the competition we competed against various teams from McKinley Tech Omega and Alpha, UPO, and Columbia Heights Education Campus. This was our first year competing so this was definitely a learning experience. We were able to learn more about the program, the types of questions that are asked, and what we have to do to be able to prepare for next year’s competition. Some of the things I learned were that Biodiesel is a fuel made primarily from soybeans and that the main source of aluminium is Bauxite.
We came in 5th place and I’m very proud of us because we really tried our best and we’ll definitely be back next year to take home the first place trophy!
