I Went to See the Never-Ending Storm
Story by Shyann Jackson. Picture of the Catatumbo Lightning.
AUG. 13, 2020: Yesterday I was in Venezuela watching the Catatumbo storm. It was very pretty, but also very scary. So I just watched it from inside the house I was staying in.
People call it the “never-ending storm” or the “almost never-ending storm” because there’s lightning 140 -160 nights a year, for 10 hours per day, 280 times per hour, and 28 times per minute. That’s 448000 times lightning strikes here! It was very scary because I didn’t know if I would get hit or electrocuted if I stood near the water.
Now I know why they call it the never-ending storm, because of all of that lightning! Good thing I stayed inside.
