MARCH 16, 2018: On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, student survivors of the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida called for a nationwide student walkout. Friendship Tech Prep Academy ensured that we were one of those schools who made sure that we were out there to ensure that we “Make the Choice to Free Our Voice”, which was our chant created by 9th grade scholar R’Nasia Murphy.

This entire protest was run by 9th grade scholars in Ms. Chantel Williams’ advisory and AP World History classes. We decided to be brave and stand in solidarity with the victims and survivors of this vicious attack. 9th grade scholar Nataleigh Jackson was our MC for our protest. There were speeches from Mikhiya Jones and myself about our thoughts on gun violence and school shootings.

I truly hope that people are listening to what is being said out of the mouths of children. I hope that the message has been heard and will make a difference. Any thoughts? Leave your comments in the comment section below.
