Collegiate has always ingrained the importance of community service into its students, especially the goal to give back. It is even in Collegiate’s mission statement “to actively contribute to your community”. Maurice Brooks has taken what he learned about community service from his Collegiate days and made it his career.
Aneara: What college did you attend and what was your major?
Maurice: I attended Morehouse College and got my BA in Business Management.
Aneara: What year did you graduate from Morehouse?
Maurice: I graduated from Morehouse in 2021.
Aneara: What was your college experience like? Were there any struggles? Were there any triumphs?
Maurice: College definitely had a lot of struggles and a lot of triumphs. I wouldn't say it was easy at all, but it definitely wasn't hard. It was something that I knew I could do. I knew I could obtain my degree in four years.
Aneara: What has your career path looked like after graduating?
Maurice: I eventually want to get into human resource management, but as of right now, I'm getting into community outreach. One thing that college and high school taught me was to give back to my community. In doing community outreach, I'm able to connect with the community and go out and help people less fortunate than myself.
Aneara: What is one life lesson that Collegiate taught you?
Maurice: One lesson that Collegiate taught me was to just keep going. High school, for me, was very tough. Things weren't connecting. I feel like I just couldn't stop. I just had to keep going. Whether I failed a class or not, it was just more so about the idea to keep going, and to strive for excellence.
Aneara: If you could give any advice to the Class of 2023, what would it be?
Maurice: To just keep going, never stop believing in yourself, and make sure you meet your deadlines!
