That’s a Wrap

Hi, my name is Kayla Adames. You may know me as an FNN Woodridge reporter, and you may have read some of my articles. This year is my 8th grade year at Woodridge, so that means that I’m off to high school next year, which means I’m off to a different school, too.
Even though I’m sad about this, I’m also nervously excited. My new school, as of my enrollment on April 29th, is Benjamin Banneker High School, which I’m happy to say is one of the top high schools in DC. The process of selecting a high school is exciting, but stressful. You not only need to write an essay, but also go through an interview, which includes another writing portion. These are all, apparently, necessary steps to be selected into good high schools like Banneker.
Banneker isn’t the only high school with this type of selection process. Another school, which I wanted to go to, is Mckinley Tech. Every DC high school is different. The look, the class options, locations, and programs, just to name a few. All are important to consider when choosing your school, and play a big role in your future. For example, if you want to work in architecture, then a school like Phelps would be good for you. And for people like me, a school with strong academics and good connections, like Banneker, is the best choice.
Applying is just the beginning. Once you apply and enroll, next comes the pre high school jitters, which is what I’m calling the feeling before senior activities and high school. It’s basically both the nervous and exciting feeling you get all at once. Right now, as I’m writing this article, I’m feeling the jitters and sadness, since it is my last. I’ve been a part of FNN since 2019, and my first article was about the integration of technology at Woodridge.
Looking back, I’ve had fun on both my FNN journey, and my Woodrigde one. It was full of ups and downs, and lots of fun moments. So, to anyone reading this, I hope you enjoyed my articles. This is Kayla Adames, signing off for the last time.
