Soaring From One Nest to Another, I’ve Found my New Home

NOV. 26, 2019: As a child, it is very hard to make changes, especially when it is a change that involves leaving the first friends you have ever had. I attended a DC Public Charter school starting at Pre-K3. I meet my best friend at this school and I used to have fun. As I grew older I started to realize that I wasn’t getting everything I needed and my school experience wasn’t all about having fun with my best friend. I decided it was time for a change.
Looking into schools in the city and going to different open houses can be very overwhelming—not just for kids but parents too. Since my brother attends Friendship Collegiate, we decided to try out the Friendship middle school campuses. When they say first time’s the charm, it is so true. We started our journey with Friendship Woodridge campus and there was no need to go anywhere else. The love we received was amazing. All the teachers and staff gave me a sense that this is where I wanted to, no, needed to be.
Getting accepted was the best news ever. I was so excited to start a new journey at my new school. I was also a little nervous because I knew I didn’t have any friends at my new school. Of course, that feeling didn’t last long. Everyone welcomed me as if I had always been there. My classes are a lot different than what I am used to but I am working very hard to keep up and maintain my grades. With all the help from my teachers, I am doing a great job.
I don’t like it here at Woodridge, I love it here a Woodridge. What I like most is the education and that my new school gets you ready for high school. Woodridge has every activity that I enjoy and lots of sports. With great teachers and all these great programs, the next best thing is the family bond that Woodridge offers that makes me feel right at home.
