Stacey Abrams: A Woman Who is Fighting for Me

Story and photo by Paris Dozier.

Stacey Abrams is the embodiment of the future I hope for. She is a black woman who has run for Georgia governor twice now. And while we are all up to speed with the results of the midterm election and know she unfortunately did not win, here is the thing: I don't care!

Before anything is misinterpreted, let me clarify. Obviously, it would have made my day (and probably my month too) if Stacey Abrams had won the election. The reason I know it’s going to be okay is because I know she’s a fighter! If I learned anything from the political rally that I got to experience in Atlanta, it’s that this won’t be Ms. Abrams’ first time hearing no. I believe that she will—just like she did years ago—continue fighting for a better future. A future where women control their bodies, where everyone has equal rights, and where people of color aren’t fighting for the same things they were over a century ago.

I believe that Stacey Abrams can do it. Though I’m not old enough to vote yet, I will keep spreading her message because when I see her, I see someone fighting for me. What better message is there to promote?
