MAY, 10, 2021: Have you been hearing loud sounds at night or in the mornings? Is the sound similar to that of a motorcycle? Do you hear this sound typically when walking or standing next to trees? Well, those are cicadas.
Cicadas are annoying, large, loud, flying bugs that stick to you. They also usually come around mid-May. When they arrive, they will fill the sky and sidewalks across certain states in America. Cicadas can grow up to two inches in length, with wings around an inch long. These cicadas were eggs in 2004, went into the ground, have been developing for 17 years, and this is their year to come out, all through the annual cicada comes out every year. Cicadas may look like they would have it out for you but they can’t sting or bite you.
The reason you have not heard of cicadas before is because they only come around every 15-17 years. Specifically, this is the year of the Brood X breed of Cicadas. Cicadas are found in about 15 states throughout America. These 15 states stretch across the midwest and east coast, such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and even D.C. The expected arrival time for Cicadas this year is around May 15.
Now I hope you know why you’ve been hearing all of those weird sounds during the day and at night. I hope this information on Cicadas is helpful.
