APR. 2, 2020: For over three decades, March has been known as Women’s History Month. During the month of March, people all over the country celebrated the amazing accomplishments and good deeds of different women around the world.
Women’s History Month started as International Women’s Day in 1911. The day was used to promote peace and highlight women’s rights. In 1978, the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week”. They used the week of March 8 to celebrate because it was the original date of International Women’s Day. From 1987 to present day, we now celebrate Women’s History the entire month of March because being a woman is a superpower that deserves recognition and respect!
