The Life of Barack Obama

March 2, 2015: Barack Obama was the First African American President of the United States. He brought a lot of inspiration to us. Even though he has a lot of conflict with the Republican Party, he still managed to win both elections and pass groundbreaking legislation.

Barack Obama is the 44th and current President of the United States, First elected to president in 2008, he won a second term in 2012. Obama was born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu Hawaii. He has lived with his mom who is from Kansas and his father from Kenya.

As a child, he lived in California for a few years. Then he moved to Chicago in 1985. In 1981 he moved back to California to attend Occidental College for two years. Then he moved to New York to attend Columbia University for his last two years.

When he graduated he started to look into politics. Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996. During that time he expanded health care for children.

While he was president, he won the Nobel Peace Prize (2009), Time Magazine’s Person of the Year (2008, 2012) and NME (New Musical Express) Hero of the Year Award (2013). Some laws that he passed were the Affordable HealthCare Act (providing healthcare for all Americans) and laws to cut down taxes.

In 1998, Malia Ann Obama was born on July 4. Then in 2001 Natasha Obama was born on June 10. They are a part of the First Family of the White House.
