Why Field Trips Are Important

Students should go on field trips because they can learn a lot from them. Fun, non-academic related field trips are rewards for good behavior or high grades and test scores. Students and teachers should agree on both fun and academic field trips to go on. Why should kids go on a field trip that they would not enjoy or won’t understand?
I believe that school field trips should be both a fun experience and a learning opportunity for students. For example, a recent Sky Zone field trip was a reward for excellent PARCC scores, while the Kennedy Center field trip for 5th graders was an educational, yet fun, field trip to learn more about the science behind online games.
The right time for field trips is at the beginning of a new module, so students can get a better understanding of what they are beginning to learn. One field trip that helped students get a better understanding of a new module was the Planet Word trip that the 4th graders went on last year. It helped students with words and spelling, and all kinds of different things that fall under the category of words and lexicons, which was their module. This field trip helped many students with their spelling and leveled up their lexicon.
Field trips are important because they are a great way to strengthen skills students have learned in the classroom. Also, field trips can provide a new learning experience that they might not have at home. Teachers, take your students on field trips! They’ll thank you later.
