Woodridge Eagles Read!
Four young ladies and Woodridge scholars have been attending book club sessions for about a month now, hosted by Librarian and Woodridge Teacher of the Year finalist, Ms. Whitfield. They’re reading Turtles All The Way Down by John Greene, and as you can see in the picture above, they are hooked. The book is a fan favorite, with a 4.6/5 overall rating amongst readers.
Fun, exciting, and cool are just some of the words to describe this wonderful club. Although there isn’t an official schedule for the club just yet, it’s always a blast when we do meet.
A typical book club day consists of us all getting our lunches and heading over to the library together, and most of the time we’d take a trip to our school’s vending machine located in our cafeteria surrounded by laughs and fun the whole way there and back. Then we’d come back and start the club. Most days the other members and I will take turns reading out different segments of the book, stopping once in a while to discuss what was just read. My favorite part about book club so far is how there’s so many diverse opinions because we all have a chance to say our thoughts and possibly have a debate on who’s more logical.
I think every school should have a book club because it gives students knowledge, allows them to make reading a habit, and could possibly introduce them to themes they might use for the rest of their lives. I believe that everyone should join a book club at least once in their life and who knows, maybe it’ll change their life forever.
