On Thursday, October 5th, 2017, FNN members from Tech Prep and Collegiate joined with students at Friendship Chamberlain to celebrate the new FNN Online Book Club. Over 250 students in PreK-1st grade got to pick their own book that they can always keep. Volunteers read the new books to students. Volunteers included Ms. Patricia Brantley, the CEO of Friendship Public Charter Schools; Principal Mr. Morris Harbour; Mr. Eric Collazo, the resident dean; Ms. Marilyn Kaufman, our FNN Director; Ms. Desiree Girelle, our FNN Early Child Coordinator; and FNN reporters from both Friendship Tech Prep and Collegiate, including me.
The experience for me was really fun and I had a great time reading to the students. They were so engaged in the stories and asked many questions. But most importantly, they had fun with it and learned how reading is very important.
This amazing event took place thanks in part to support from Ms. Williamson, the office manager at Friendship Chamberlain, Cathy Reeverts, and JLynn Van Pelt who helped sort the books. And an even bigger thanks to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation for donating funds to help purchase the books. We were honored to help introduce our online Book Club and I look forward to celebrating reading with Blow Pierce on November 15th for our next book party.
Jerell King is a 10th grade scholar, and Sean Beach and Asia Ferrell are 9th grade scholars at Friendship Tech Prep Academy.
