Princess Diana and the Revenge Dress

In lieu of Women’s History Month, and really just as an excuse for me to talk about how much I appreciate women everywhere, I decided to create a miniseries about Iconic Women. Sadly, due to some unforeseen technical delays, as most of us know, it’s no longer Women's History Month. However, do you ever really need an excuse to talk about amazing women? That said, who better to start with than Princess Diana and her renowned and infamous “Revenge Dress”.

Princess Diana of Wales, also known as the Princess of the People, was a former member of the British Royal Family. In addition to being known for not always following the rules, Princess Diana has worn many outfits that have gone down in fashion history as nothing less than iconic. This includes the “Revenge Dress”. Making its debut in June of 1994, Princess Diana wore the dress to the Serpentine Gallery the night Prince Charles confessed to his affair with his now wife, Camilla. A quote from an article by Readers Digest I think best sums up what makes this dress so amazing, “While some would have been like, ‘I can’t face it this evening,’ Diana went out in that dress looking drop-dead gorgeous. She made a big statement.”

Princess Diana will not only go down in history because of the “Revenge Dress”, but because of everything she did that earned her the title of the People’s Princess. She did things her way, whether it was raising her children on her terms, or contributing to charitable causes she deemed important. Princess Diana and her gorgeous little black dress will without a doubt live on forever in our hearts.
