The Things We Experienced In Urban Garden

News brief and photos by Erica Bell, Justus Edwards, Destiny Monroe and Isaac Smith.

This school year at Friendship Collegiate Academy, Mr. Geter’s urban garden class planted the seeds to grow produce to sell to the community. He said, “Back in the days you could play in the dirt for free but now you can get paid while playing in the dirt and have the students help by planting fruits and vegetables. It's cool, it’s fun playing in the dirt and I got the kids to help out and make it fun”.

The urban garden is important  according to FCA STEM teacher Mr. Ray, “It brings the community together. It impacts your health and you can learn more about your environment”.

What I love about gardening is to grow new veggies like turnips, kale, mustard greens, okra, peppers, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and tomatoes.

What I enjoy about gardening is seeing the veggies grow. I grew pumpkin seeds and peppers and then after that, I also grew spinach. The best part about urban gardening are the veggies and starting to grow them.

What I love about urban gardening is learning how vegetables grow. The best part was growing watermelon.

I like how I contribute to the garden because I sometimes like doing it.
